Information:
The Hungarians living in Romania form one of the largest national minorities in Europe. According to the last Romanian census (January 1992) 1,624,959 citizens (7.1% of the total population of Romania) consider themselves Hungarians.
After the fall of the communist dictatorship, on December 25th 1989, the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (DAHR) was founded to represent the interests of the Hungarian minority in Romania.
Since December 1996, for the first time in the history of Romania, a legitimate political force of the Hungarian community is member of the governmental coalition. On behalf of the DAHR 2 ministers, 11 secretaries of state, 2 prefects, 8 deputy prefects, as well as numerous specialists perform governmental activity.
The Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania is member of: the European Democrat Union (EDU), the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN), the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation (UNPO) and the associated member of the European Peoples Party (EPP).
Székely is an Hungarian ethnic group in Romania (in the centre of the country

language groups at Szekelys). They were noble border guards from the 12th
century. Some of them left their homeland and migrated to the Principality of
Moldova - they are Csangos (Bacau county).
